Title Sequence Project - Textures.
We've decided to encoroporate not just digital textures but painted, hand crafted textures too for our city which will be made in Maya. As these textures will be UV unwrapped I've decided to make them as simple as possible so that I can join them together pretty much seamless.
I've begun one which revolves around paint. I let the paint dribble down the card, and added in more colours and white to mix it all up. So far I'm quite pleased with what's come out.
(excuse the horrible quality, I'm having to use my webcam as my camera whilst I don't have my Nikon available)
We completed our storyboard today so we're all happy with what's going on. We all shared ideas and decided something that we all feel represents Creative Review. We're going to begin animating on Saturday, after our Animatic hand in on Friday. We're discussing ideas, keeping in contact and sharing artwork via our facebook group, Team Batman. So far things are going well!

Title Sequence project.
This is a bit behind schedule! Nevertheless, here's some work we've been doing for our title sequence.
First mindmap of ideas. Just generally thinking of what Creative Review is about and the ideas within it.
I began working on moodboards to do with Graphic Design.
From there I began looking into personifing characters from programs.
I came up with the idea of the 'Adobe gang' In which every character was a different program. I made Photoshop a builder type, with paint over his clothes and carrying a large paintbrush. After Effects a sortof 'magician' who created various sparks and feathers from his hands. Flash, a bit of a gambler (you're always gambling using Flash, you never know when it'll crash on you) He has a lightning bolt over his chest on his hoody and keyframe cards. Dream Weaver, I made into a bearded nerd style fellow. I felt Dream Weaver being the web design part of Adobe should be that quiet computer nerd. Sound Booth was a young teenage style character with big beefy headphones on.
I began talking to Kylie who had also had the same idea, we began combining ideas, as she'd crated Flash as a naughty 10 year old boy. Here are some ideas I had:
We're still working on these. Hopefully they'll be sorted by Wednesday/Thursday.
I then designed a quick storyboard from our ideas:
We had a pitch and a critique with Richard Morrison, one of the leading title sequence directors out there. (http://www.richard-morrison.co.uk/) which I found really useful.We've decided to condense the idea a bit, and bring the magazine into the story more as he found there wasn't many references to the magazine itself.
We also had a quick mindmap on the 4/5/2011. Really just deciding different ideas.
I've also emailed one of the technitians in our University for tutorials on using the Green screen and rotoscoping quickly and effectivly using After Effects. Phoebe has also been working on a lot of concept work for this, designing backgrounds, and some of the characters within the scene.
Lots of work to do now! Yay!

Title Sequence project
Our project for this term is a title sequence. Our group has chosen to animate a title sequence for the Creative Review magazine's new television show. Our idea so far is to create a silhouette of a man, walking through a busy urban street. The street turns into an arty/graphic design street. Within the street there's references to artists, products and companies associated with graphic design and of course the magazine itself.
I bought a copy of the most recent Creative Review for inspiration, had a look on YouTube for interesting introductions to films and television shows and began thinking of ideas.
I began looking at the children's art show Art Attack and SMart for inspiration.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the SMart opening theme on YouTube.
I've also been looking at other opening to films for inspiration too. The idea for the street came from the Waltz with Bashir opening;
There was also inspiration taken from the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang opening, Casino Royale and Catch Me If You Can too;
This video as well also spoke out to me, I found it quite interesting how typography can be manipulated in such a way. A clever yet effective design;
The stylistic qualities are something as a group we're going to take into deep consideration. I feel from the research, that a simple yet bold design would work well. I think leaving the characters as silhouettes will be a good idea, as then we can bring more detail into the actual product to emphasise that.
I've been working on some sketchbook ideas which I will scan in hopefully tomorrow and put up on my blog soon.

Dot.
How amazing is this?!
My friend Rachel sent me this recently, and it was also reviewed in the May 2011 issue of Creative Review.
